Murray Educator Receives Major Award

Rosemary Campbell receives her award from the Acting NSW Education Minister, John Hatzistergos.

One of the major education and training institutions in the Murray Region is TAFE NSW Riverina Institute. This week there was formal recognition of the outstanding work done by its director in ensuring it really delivers on the needs of the region.

On Monday evening the Institute Director, Ms Rosemary Campbell, was a recipient at the 2008 Meritorious Service to Public Education and Training Awards.

Presented by the acting Minister for Education in NSW, John Hatzistergos, the awards reflect very well on the quality of training and education offered in the Murray Region. The awards focus on individuals who have made a significant difference to outcomes for students in NSW.

During the past 11 years Ms Campbell has been instrumental in leading the Riverina Institute through a series of fundamental changes to the way TAFE colleges operate in the region.

As Institute Director, Ms Campbell has established strong and effective links with other educational providers.

She has also strengthened the links between the Institute and local employers and representative organisations.

During this time she has also managed to change the culture of the Institute so staff are more sensitive to the needs of students and industry, setting in place a strong communication system which allows for ongoing contact between employers and alumni.

As Institute Director Ms Campbell is responsible for 19 campuses over 154,500 square kilometres delivering training to 33,376 students.

It's a real feather in the cap for the Murray Region and MurrayNow is very pleased to join the chorus of congratulations.
